Young readers can choose a few stories of their own at a free outdoor children’s book market outside the front doors of the Carleton Community Centre.

Running Saturday, Aug. 8 from 2–4pm, or until the books run out, the market will feature new and gently used books geared toward children from pre-K to Grade 5. Every child who attends will be invited to select books free of charge to take home and add to their own library.

The market is being organized by community member Marlee Learmonth to make books more accessible to local children and families. Along with plenty of books to browse, the afternoon will include story time, face painting, bookmark decorating, comfortable places to read, family resources and more.

Donations of new or gently used board books, early readers and picture books are currently being accepted. Anyone interested in contributing books can contact Marlee at [email protected].
